Netflix’s ‘The Keepers’ Is the New True Crime Series ‘Making a Murderer’ Fans Need
On the heels of the successful Making a Murderer, Netflix is continuing its foray into true crime, this time with The Keepers. The streaming service recently debuted a fascinating trailer for the upcoming docu-series, which focuses on the 1969 murder of a Baltimore nun.
In the clip, Sister Cathy Cesnik (“a spirit of compassion and kindness”) suddenly vanishes, and her body is found months later. Though her murder was never solved, the trailer hints that she may have been killed for asking too many questions about abusive priests. The trailer also implies that police corruption, and coverups by the Catholic church and local government could all be part of the larger story.
We’ll definitely be tuning in. However, with shows like Making a Murderer, Amanda Knox and HBO’s The Jinx and Beware the Slenderman, I’m starting to wonder if we’re hitting peak saturation on the true-crime front already.
The series premieres on Netflix on May 19.
