Rock ‘n’ Roll Legend Chuck Berry Has Passed Away
Chuck Berry has passed away at the age of 90.
The legendary musician, often referred to as the father of rock ‘n’ roll, was found unresponsive in his home outside St. Louis on Saturday, according to CNN.
The St. Charles County Police Dept. Facebook page also announced the news on Saturday afternoon:
“St. Charles County police responded to a medical emergency on Buckner Road at approximately 12:40 p.m. today (Saturday, March 18). Inside the home, first responders observed an unresponsive man and immediately administered lifesaving techniques. Unfortunately, the 90-year-old man could not be revived and was pronounced deceased at 1:26 p.m.
“The St. Charles County Police Department sadly confirms the death of Charles Edward Anderson Berry Sr., better known as legendary musician Chuck Berry.
“The family requests privacy during this time of bereavement.”
Berry is survived by wife Themetta “Toddy” Suggs, who he was married to for almost 70 years. Together, the two had four children: Ingrid, Charles Berry Jr., Aloha, and Melody.
Since news of his passing hit the public, the musician’s peers have sung the icon’s praises.
“Chuck Berry was rock’s greatest practitioner, guitarist, and the greatest pure rock ‘n’ roll writer who ever lived,” Bruce Springsteen wrote on Twitter.
Lenny Kravitz also posted in Berry’s honor.
“Hail Hail Chuck Berry!!!” the singer wrote on Instagram. “None of us would have been here without you. Rock on brother!”
