Mischa Barton is taking every possible measure to stop her attackers in their tracks.

On Tuesday, Barton and her lawyer Lisa Bloom released a statement to People verifying reports sex tapes of the actress were in the process of being sold to various outlets. The women made it crystal clear how they’d be handling the illegal, atrocious invasion of privacy:

“I am very proud to represent actress Mischa Barton, who is courageously standing up for her rights,” Bloom wrote.

“It has been reported that naked or sexually explicit images of Ms. Barton are being ‘shopped around.’ Ms. Barton does not consent to any disclosure of any such images. She believes that she was recorded without her consent by someone she was seeing at the time. There’s a name for this disgusting conduct: revenge pornography,” Bloom wrote. “Revenge pornography is a form of sexual assault, and it is also a crime and a civil wrong in California. And we will not stand for it.

“I have a message for anyone who attempts to traffic in these photos or videos of Ms. Barton: we will find you, and we will come after you,” Bloom concluded. “We will fully prosecute you under every available criminal and civil law. You proceed at your peril.”

Bloom went on to tell People how much she respected Barton for taking an aggressive approach to the injustice.

“I’ve been doing women’s right cases for 30 years,” she said, “and what I see over and over again is women who are very scared, but when they stand up on their own two feet and they say, ‘No, I’m not going to stand for this, I’m going to fight back,’ it’s very empowering. I think this is a very healthy step that Mischa step is taking.”

On Wednesday, Barton herself spoke out on the ongoing lawsuit during a press conference, offering more info on the unfortunate situation. Not only is her goal to protect herself, she said, but to ensure the same thing doesn’t happen to other women.

“I just want to say that I’ve been put through an incredibly hard and trying time,” she said. “This is a painful situation, and my absolute worst fear was realized when I learned that someone I thought I loved and trusted was filming my most intimate and private moments, without my consent, with hidden cameras. Then I learned something even worse: that someone is trying to sell these vides and make them public. I came forward to fight this not only for myself but for all the women out there.

“I want to protect them from the pain and humiliation I’ve had to go through,” Barton continued. “No woman should have to go through this. It is a very hard thing to do but I am glad that I am finally standing up for myself.”

Barton and Bloom have filed a domestic violence restraining order against the individual Barton believes is offering her nude photos and videos to the highest bidders.

As it stands, the criminal in question is unable to “sell, distribute, give away or show any naked pictures of videos of any type of Mischa Barton,” which means that, for now, Barton has successfully protected herself.

It’s a massive win for Barton, but perhaps more importantly, this case sets a precedent that offenders like Barton’s can’t get away with sexual exploitation.
