Bruce Springsteen Recorded a Song for Harry Potter and You Can Hear It Now!
Buried deep in the many trivia tidbits of Harry Potter lore is something you probably didn’t know. Bruce Springsteen at one point recorded a ballad for the movies that was never used, but now the demo recording for the track has surfaced online, so you can give it a listen for yourself.
If Bruce Springsteen and Harry Potter seem like kind of a weird combination to you, the producers probably agree with you. And while the song is moving and IS a Bruce Springsteen song, it probably isn’t the best match for the Potter movies. (Also, it would have been kind of strange to have someone as strongly American as Springsteen playing over the credits for such a quintessentially British movie.)
Springsteen himself talked about the song, “I’ll Stand By You Always,” in a recent interview with BBC Radio 2’s Simon Mayo, and says he’d still like to get it into a children’s movie at some point.
“It was pretty good,” he said. “It was a song that I wrote for my eldest son, it was a big ballad that was very uncharacteristic of something I’d sing myself. But it was something that I thought would have fit lovely; at some point I’d like to get it into a children’s movie of some sort because it was a pretty lovely song.”
You can listen to the song below along with a clip from the interview.
